Dr. Susanne Beier, Phd., 77, of Forest City, died Thursday February 29th at Geisinger CMC, Scranton. Susanne was surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was the widow of Dieter Beier, who died November 7, 2004.
Born in Augsburg, Germany, daughter of the late Kreszentia Muhlbauer, she was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church in Carbondale. She received her Bachelor's Degree in teaching from Thomas Edison College, Masters Degree in Education and Counseling from Rutgers University, and her Doctorate Degree in Psychology from Walden University. For over 38 years, she ran a private counseling practice in Carbondale and Honesdale. Susanne was the Professional Chair at the University of Phoenix and a certified Forensic Psychologist. She was well acclaimed in her career and was featured in numerous publications and journals, including New Woman and Cosmopolitan Magazine for being one of the first career counselors in the nation. Earlier in her career, she was employed as the Principal for the Piscataway High School in New Jersey. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Greater Carbondale YMCA, where she loved the pool and spending time with her friends. Throughout her life, Susanne always had a flair for standing out, no matter what she did and how fitting it was that she passed on Leap Year Day.
Surviving are a daughter: Debra Bartkowski and husband Mark, Roaring Brook Twp; a son: Michael Parente and wife Vikki, Forest City; 12 grandchildren:Jenna Guerra; Jacob Guerra, Esq.,Matthew and Mark, Jr. Bartkowski; Sean, Tyler, Avery, Wolfgang, Genevieve, and Mercedes Parente; Clayton Keeling; Cassandra Hall; and three great grandchildren: Caleb; Jayden and Matthew .
The funeral will be Wednesday, March 6th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Honesdale. Friends may call Tuesday, from 4 to 7 pm, at the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City. All those attending the funeral on Wednesday are asked to go directly to the church.
